Nobody Fights a Fire Alone
Build the Crew
"No firefighter runs into a burning building alone. You go in as a crew — each person trained for their role, all of you trusting each other completely. The work is too important and too dangerous to go solo. Your finances, for all the big moments, are the same."
"You've done remarkable work in this course on your own. But the big decisions — estate planning, taxes, investment strategy, protection — deserve trained professionals. The catch is that not everyone who calls themselves an advisor is actually on your side. So this module is about building the right team, and knowing how to tell a true advisor from a salesperson."
This module helps you assemble your financial team — who you need, who you have, and the one question that separates a fiduciary from a salesperson. A good crew makes every other part of your plan stronger.
You don't need a pitch. You need a plan — and the right people.

The Four You May Need
Tap each card.
The quarterback of the team. But here's what matters most: choose a fiduciary — someone legally required to put your interests first. Many "advisors" are only held to a weaker "suitability" standard and earn commissions on what they sell you. Ask directly: Are you a fiduciary, 100% of the time, in writing? How are you paid? Fuzzy answers are your answer.
For your will, trusts, and powers of attorney (Module 14). Estate law is state-specific and the cost of mistakes lands on your family. A qualified estate attorney gets these documents right — usually for far less than people fear.
For tax strategy, not just tax filing. A good CPA can save you more than they cost through smart planning — and is essential if you own a business, have complex income, or are navigating retirement withdrawals. Tax is one area where good advice pays for itself.
For the protection planning from Phase Two — life, disability, property, umbrella, long-term care. Ideally an independent agent who can shop multiple carriers rather than push one company's products. Coordinate them with your advisor so coverage fits the overall plan.

The Drill
The question that reveals everything.
An advisor offers to manage your money "at no cost to you — I don't charge a fee." When you ask how they're paid, they explain they earn commissions from the financial products they put you in. How should you read this?

"You don't necessarily need all four right away — start with the gap that's costing you most. But do insist on one thing: that anyone advising you is a fiduciary who'll put it in writing. As I tell folks, if I get paid more when you buy something, that's sales. I chose a different route. You deserve someone who did too."
